How the CO2 cylinder exchange works

Our CO2 exchange keeps your sparkling water maker going without the plastic bottles. You buy gas when you need it, send back your empties when it suits you, and get €10 CO2 credit for each one.

How it works

  1. Buy gas when you need it. A cylinder is €30, which includes a €10 deposit. Once the empty comes back, it works out at €20.
  2. Return your empties when you're ready. Any brand of standard 425g / 60L cylinder, screw-in, click-in or Quooker, whether you bought it from us or not. We collect from your door, you drop it to a DPD Pickup Shop, or you drop it into us at Faerly HQ.
  3. Get €10 CO2 credit for each one. We email you a code for your next order.

Returning your empties

A home collection costs €7 per box. One box takes 2 to 12 cylinders, and the price is the same whether you send 2 or 12, so it's worth letting a few build up. Dropping them into Faerly HQ in Kilcullen is free.

Booking a home collection

Book on our collection booking page: https://www.faerly.ie/products/book-a-pick-up-from-home-dpd-collection-for-co2-gas-returns

You can book a collection on its own, or add it to a gas order. When you book, tell us:

  • how many cylinders you're returning
  • which days of the week suit you
  • the address to collect from
  • a safe place to leave the box, if you might be out

We then schedule it in with DPD for you.

What to expect next

  1. Your return label. We email it straight after you book. Print it and attach it securely to the box. No printer? Write your name and order number clearly on the box instead, and the driver will add their own label.
  2. Your collection date. We email your collection date and DPD reference, usually by the next working morning. Need a different day? Just reply to that email with the weekday that suits.
  3. Collection day. Have your box ready from 8am. Most collections happen between 9am and 6pm, a set time can't be chosen, and drivers don't usually phone ahead. DPD won't collect a box left outside unless you've given us a safe place, even if it's easy to see.
  4. Your credit. We usually email your €10 credit for each accepted cylinder within 3 working days of your collection.

Your collection won't always happen on the same day as your gas delivery, as DPD runs collections and deliveries on separate routes.

For packing tips and the other ways to return, see our articles on how to send back and how to pack your empty cylinders.

Using your credit

  • Your credit comes as a code, valid for 12 months on CO2 cylinders, and is used in one transaction. If you'd like it split into smaller amounts, just ask.
  • Free delivery is worked out on your order total after your credit is applied. Delivery is free on orders over €75, so for example, four cylinders at €120 with €40 of credit comes to €80, which still gets free delivery. Three cylinders at €90 with €30 of credit comes to €60, so delivery is charged.
  • If your code hasn't arrived, check your spam folder, then get in touch.

Cylinder not working?

If a cylinder isn't fizzing, it's usually something small and easy to sort. See our troubleshooting checklist in "Is my cylinder empty or faulty?", and if it's still not right, get in touch and we'll replace it or refund you.

Good to know

  • You can start either way. Order first and send your empties back later, or send empties first and use the credit on your order.
  • There's no deadline to send back your empties and no subscription.
  • You don't need to return the same number you bought. There's no one-for-one rule.
  • The deposit comes back as CO2 credit, not cash. That's what keeps the exchange going.
  • We can't give credit for damaged cylinders, but we'll still send them for recycling.
  • We deliver and collect anywhere on the island of Ireland, including Northern Ireland. We don't offer the exchange outside Ireland at the moment.
  • Tip: let a few empties build up so one box covers more of them. Buying and returning four at a time usually keeps your order over €75 for free delivery, even after your credit.
